MaAfrika Tikkun Australia Celebrates
Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday at Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney
His Royal Highness Chief Mandlesizwe Zwelivelile Mandela, grandson of the great Nelson Mandela, was in Sydney on Saturday 26th July to attend the Mandela 90th Celebratory dinner held at the Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney.
As a representative of Mandela’s chosen charity ‘MaAfrika Tikkun’, Chief Mandela, was honorary keynote speaker at this special evening. “I am very happy to have regained the family’s Mvezo chieftancy and I am proud to be following in my grandfathers footsteps, especially with the continued support of people worldwide,” said Mandla.
“MaAfrika Tikkun’s mission is to empower disadvantaged communities in South Africa and help transform their lives,” continued Chief Mandela. “We achieve this through focus on orphaned and vulnerable children and the elderly living in poverty-stricken townships.”
Nelson Mandela is the Patron in Chief of MaAfrika Tikkun which means ‘Transformation of Mother Africa’ and was established in 1994. “The Tikkun projects demonstrate in a practical and sustainable manner what can be done by limited resources, great commitment and passion”, said Nelson Mandela.
The MC for this spectacular evening was Geraldine Doogue and entertainment included Aria Hall of Fame Inductee Richard Clapton, plus Christine Anu, Deni Hines and Justine Bradley with other acclaimed indigenous and world musicians. Prominent Australian identities were also be in attendance, including South African High Commissioner His Excellency Mr. Anthony Mongalo.
An official portrait of Nelson Mandela painted by MaAfrika Tikkun Australian Ambassador and Hunter Valley based artist Greg Wilson, was auctioned on the night for $10,000. Other live auction items included significant international artworks, never released David Moore photographs of Nelson Mandela, a seven day cruise on “The World”, a five star South African safari holiday courtesy of South Australian Tourism and Qantas plus a dinner with His Royal Highness Chief Mandlesizwe Zwelivelile Mandela at The Quay restaurant. |
